What is the difference between share and re-share?

When you start creating your like, comment, or share campaign, and you paste a URL to an existing social media post (like one from LinkedIn in this example), you will see two options: share or re-share:

1) Reshare:

When you create one of these campaigns, we will usually (it is only sometimes possible) embed your post from the social network inside Ambassify for your advocates to see. They'll be asked to share that post and confirm they shared (if you enable this option).

Advantages

  • The social networks display your original post inside the feeds of your advocates' friends and followers.

  • The re-shared post links back to the original post, making it easier for your advocates' friends to end up on your (LinkedIn, Facebook/X...) page and see more of your content.

  • On some networks like X, if someone likes your advocate's shared post, those likes are attributed to your original post, making it more popular and more likely to reach more people.

  • Advocates can see the post inside Ambassify as well.

Disadvantages

  • You need one campaign per social network. A regular Ambassify Social Share would let advocates share one link across multiple networks while this campaign type is restricted to sharing a LinkedIn post on LinkedIn, a Facebook post on Facebook, or a post on X, etc.

  • Reporting inside Ambassify for this campaign is limited. We cannot track what happens on social networks, so all we can do is show you how many advocates have clicked the "I shared it" button in your campaign. We can't track clicks or potential reach.

  • You can provide a default share copy, but the advocates have to copy and paste the provided copy themselves first, and then they can click "repost with your thoughts" on LinkedIn, for example.

2) Share:

When you click share instead of re-share, we will set up the campaign in a different way.

The first part of the campaign looks the same as a re-share campaign, but here, you can select the networks you want your ambassadors to share on.

For this example, we took a URL from an existing post on LinkedIn, so when they share, they will share a link to the original post on LinkedIn. By clicking on the shared link, you will be re-directed to the original post.

Advantages

  • We can verify your content was shared on their feed, e.g., on LinkedIn (you can see this in the interactions, where you will see the verified share).

  • Shared images or videos look much nicer because we'll upload your image to the advocate's feed.

  • You can provide a default message to include with the shared content, which the ambassadors don't have to copy & paste. They can still edit the message, but it will be shared automatically with their post.

  • For some networks, we will be able to determine how many friends or followers your advocate has so we can report more accurately on the reach generated by Ambassify.

  • We can track clicks on the posts for social share campaigns (not for images or videos).

Disadvantages

  • Your advocates have to connect their accounts before they can share the first time

  • It doesn't work for every social media network
