Sometimes you'll look at your campaign participations and notice there are some of them that were created by "Anonymous" instead of a member from your Ambassify program. This is something that can happen when your campaign is published on a landing page because the visitors are not required to log in when they participate.
Regardless of the fact that they are not required to log in, we still try our best to track these participations to the correct member in a few ways:
- When you send a message through our tool, the actual message to your members will contain unique links that identify them on the landing pages
- Once they have been identified, we have implemented some tracking that remembers the ambassador afterwards.
Of course, there are still a lot of ways for someone to participate with a campaign on a landing page without being identified. The most common are:
- You have posted/sent/... the URL to the landing page to somewhere/someone without using our messages.
- You sent out a "test message" to yourself and then participated in the campaign. Test messages do not provide the unique links mentioned above and thus do not allow for identifying you.
- It's also possible that one of your members received the form campaign by e-mail, visited the landing page and copied the URL from their browser afterwards to send the link to a friend/colleague/...
The "recruitment form" in the picture
There is one exception to all the above, which is a form campaign that includes fields with the "Persist in member profile" option enabled. This type of campaign is most commonly used as a recruitment form and more information can be found here.
We can distinct two scenario's when we spread the recruitment form without using the Ambassify messages but by putting the form link on an external website page / on social media channels /...
- When someone who was not identified yet fills in such a campaign, a new member will be created
- When the form is filled in with data that conflicts with a member who is already in your program. On account of security considerations we cannot let an unidentified person add data to the profile of an existing member.
Regarding the second scenario, we found a solution as well. How do we copy with this?
We have changed the way form campaign submissions are handled when customers make use of the
Persist to profile option.
In the past when someone who was not logged in filled in such a form with information from an existing member, the submission would be created as an “Anonymous” entry. We had to do this because of security and privacy considertations: we could not attribute actions from an unidentified person to an existing member.
Starting today however, we’ve added an extra layer to the challenge that will resolve this problem. If conflicting data is filled in on a form campaign, the user will now be shown a notice telling them about the conflict and letting them know they will receive an e-mail to rectify the problem. The e-mail will contain an authenticated link to the challenge which makes sure they are logged in when visiting the campaign and can now fill in their information to complete the challenge.
